Membership

Are you new to the ESA and are ready to sign up for a membership? Please complete ALL of the following steps in order:

1) Complete our ESA Registration Form

2) Sign up for an ATA Student Membership Account

New to ATA? Sign up for an account.

3) Please pay the $20.00* membership fee, payable through e-transfer to esafinance@ucalgary.ca. Your ESA membership will not be official until payment has been received.

Please note we do not accept cash.

4) Once confirmed, physical ATA membership cards can be picked up at the ESA Office (EDT202B) during scheduled office hours. Alternatively, a request can be made to have the card mailed to you by emailing esa@ucalgary.ca

*Membership fee will increase to $25.00 after October 31, 2026

Are you a previous ESA member who is looking to renew your membership for the 2026/27 school year? Please complete the following three steps to ensure that your membership is up to date:

​1) Complete our ESA Registration Form

2) Renew your ATA Student Membership Account

​a. Login to your ATA account here.

b. Under “update your profile” (sidebar for desktop, bottom of page for mobile) please select “student membership”

c. Ensure you are listed under “University of Calgary, Student Local #2” and hit “update” - this will update your account to be current for this academic year.

• Free access to professional development workshops hosted by the ESA (these are practical and applicable and look great on your resume!)

• Free advice and legal consultation on professional matters from ATA personnel

• Discounted admission to attend our ESA Annual Education Symposium held at the University of Calgary

• Opportunity to present research at our ESA Annual Education Symposium held at the University of Calgary (no admission fee for presenters)

• Discounted opportunities to attend ESA sponsored social events throughout the year

• Opportunity to attend the ESA Graduation Banquet

• Access to membership in ATA specialist councils

• All second year students (500-level) must be an ESA Member to be eligible for Teachers’ Convention

• Discount rates at hotels across Alberta as well as at some businesses, including:

  • Michaels: 15% off year round

  • Staples: Teacher appreciation events (Late August – mid September)

  • Eyecon - 20% discount on glasses

  • Mastermind Toys - 10% discount on top-quality educational toys, learning aids and books (must specify you are a student teacher)

  • Eddie Bauer - 15% discount in store only (must specify you are a student teacher)
